Openline works across China on Tier-1 partner networks — currently China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom. In practice you're routed to whichever of those has the strongest signal for your specific location, which is typically 5G in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen and 4G/LTE across the rest of the country.
What to expect
- Speed: 5G where available. Typical download speeds of 50–300 Mbps in major cities on 5G, 20–100 Mbps on 4G/LTE.
- Coverage: country-wide across populated areas. Very remote regions may fall back to 3G.
- Latency: low enough for video calls in urban areas.
Plans
- Country plan for China — cheapest for a single-country trip. Data options from 1 GB to Unlimited.
- Regional plan covering China plus its neighbours — best for multi-country itineraries.
- Global plan — if you're travelling widely.
Buying
Search "China" on openline.com, pick your data and days, and pay by card, wallet, PayPal, or crypto. Install the eSIM before flying — activation happens automatically on arrival.
Local tips
- Keep your home SIM in and let Openline handle data — you'll keep receiving 2FA and iMessage on your home number over the Openline data path or Wi-Fi.
- Data Roaming must be on for the Openline line even though there is no roaming charge to you.
- In Beijing 5G is dense enough that turning off Wi-Fi and using Openline directly often outperforms local hotel Wi-Fi.
