While at sea, ships use their own maritime satellite network (Cellular at Sea, WMS, or similar). No consumer eSIM — Openline included — connects there without paying the maritime carrier's very high roaming rates.
What we recommend:
- Turn Data Roaming off on the Openline line before you board, so you don't accidentally connect to the maritime network.
- Use the ship's Wi-Fi package or activate the Openline plan only after docking in a covered port.
- The moment you're on land in a supported country, Openline works exactly as it does anywhere else.
Same guidance for planes with in-flight cellular.
Still stuck?
Reach Openline support 24/7 through any of these channels:
- Live chat — inside the Openline app or at openline.com
- Email — ask@openline.com
- WhatsApp — wa.me/15554842461
- Messenger — m.me/askopenline
- Contact form — openline.com/contact
- Social DMs — @askopenline on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok
When you write in, include your purchase code (the OL-… code we emailed you) and, if the eSIM is already installed, its ICCID (Settings → Cellular → tap the Openline line). That's enough for us to find your plan and diagnose without back-and-forth.
