CarPlay itself doesn't affect cellular data, but some car systems disable the phone's Wi-Fi to prefer the car's own connection — and if the car isn't online, the phone can silently drop off cellular too. Wired CarPlay in particular has a known iOS bug where the modem restarts during connection.
Fixes
- Toggle airplane mode after connecting to CarPlay to force a modem reset.
- If you're using wireless CarPlay, disconnect from the car's Wi-Fi hotspot for phone data.
- Update iOS and the car's firmware; both matter here.
