Both are GSMA-standard servers in the eSIM ecosystem. They do different jobs.
- SM-DP+ (Data Preparation Plus) hosts and delivers a specific profile to a specific device via an activation code. This is what a travel eSIM like Openline uses today.
- SM-DS (Discovery Server) is a lookup service where a phone can ask "is there a profile waiting for me?" without a QR code. It's how some enterprise MDM systems push profiles silently.
For Openline
We use SM-DP+ for all consumer plans; you always get either a QR code or a one-tap install link. SM-DS-based zero-touch provisioning is available in Openline for Business through our reseller API.
Still stuck?
Reach Openline support 24/7 through any of these channels:
- Live chat — inside the Openline app or at openline.com
- Email — ask@openline.com
- WhatsApp — wa.me/15554842461
- Messenger — m.me/askopenline
- Contact form — openline.com/contact
- Social DMs — @askopenline on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, TikTok
When you write in, include your purchase code (the OL-… code we emailed you) and, if the eSIM is already installed, its ICCID (Settings → Cellular → tap the Openline line). That's enough for us to find your plan and diagnose without back-and-forth.
